Anna Cannata, MS, CN, LMHC
Anna Cannata is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Certified Nutritionist (CN). Anna has worked at an eating disorder treatment center for three years. She has practiced extensively in this field in an intimate, yet non-clinical setting. Anna is a graduate of Bastyr University, having earned her Masters of Science in Nutrition and Clinical Health Psychology. Anna is currently on the IADEP board, a non-profit organization for eating disorder professionals.
As a teacher and motivator with a love of life, Anna draws on her life experience to bring empathy and compassion to every interaction with her clients. Anna uses motivational interviewing and an intuitive eating approach to help support clients’ physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.
Anna is a Health at Every Size (HAES) practitioner, offering a non-diet approach to weight concerns. This empowering method supports body attunement and mindful eating, as well as assisting in the development of self-esteem and self-acceptance.
Through her own struggles with food and body, and by thinking that if she could just eat right and exercise right she would be healed, Anna learned two important lessons that she now shares with her clients. First is that struggling is ok, it is the process of how we learn and grow. Second is when struggling, it is essential to have support that can help transform difficult experiences into growth and, ultimately, into thriving.
Anna’s warm and compassionate approach allows her to walk the healing path together with her clients. As part of your health care team, Anna will provide you with support on your journey to being healthy, happy and whole.
Anna’s clinical focuses are:
- Eating disorders, with a focus on Binge Eating Disorder
- Emotional eating, food “issues,” chronic dieting
- Mood and anxiety
- Chronic illness like diabetes, heart disease and chronic pain
In her spare time, Anna likes to camp in the PNW and read fantasy novels. In fact, her pet guinea pigs are named after the characters in The Lord of the Rings. Samwise, Bilbo, and Legolas keep her smiling, as does her garden with more than fifty different varieties of edible plants.
