Julie Starkel, MS, MBA, RDN
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and Certified Dietitian (RDN/CD) I Integrative and Functional Medicine Nutritionist
***Not currently taking new clients***
Julie is the founder and owner of Starkel Nutrition, a nutritional counseling clinic with master’s level nutrition specialists in areas including brain health, oncology, diabetes, high cholesterol, autoimmune disease, gastrointestinal health, stress and nutrition, and eating disorders, among other concerns. Currently all practitioners are seeing clients through telehealth, and our nutritionists can work with anyone in the state of Washington. The clinic takes most insurance plans and nutrition tends to be covered without having to satisfy the deductible first.
Julie is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and Certified Dietitian (RDN/CD), a member of the American Nutrition Association, Entrepreneurs Organization Accelerators (EOA), and is a former executive board member of the national practice group Dietitians in Integrative and Functional Medicine. She is an avid learner and takes advantage of continuing education opportunities frequently. Although she is no longer taking on new clients, she trains and advises the nutritionists in her clinic, consults to corporations (she is a consultant to Aegis Living), creates nutrition programs, and speaks for groups – large and small.
Julie’s education includes a BA in International Political Economy from The University of Michigan, an MBA in International Management from Thunderbird Global School of International Management, and a Master of Science degree (MS) in Whole Foods Clinical Nutrition from Bastyr University, where she also completed her dietetic internship. Previously, in her former career in international business, she lived and worked in South America and Europe for nearly a decade. Her professional background includes the fitness, food, and nutritional supplement industries.
Her areas of focus include the following:
- IBS (Julie has special training in treating and managing Irritable Bowel Syndrome – she is referred by IBS clinics and sites in Seattle)
- Gastrointestinal health (GERD, IBS, IBD, etc)
- Autoimmune disease management (Celiac, Hashimoto’s, Raynaud’s, lupus, MS, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.)
- Women’s health
- Weight issues
- Food sensitivities and allergies
- Sports nutrition
- Chronic disease (metabolic issues, high cholesterol and other lipids, high blood pressure, anemia, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, diabetes, etc)
Personally, Julie enjoys hiking, skiing, yoga, meditation, swimming, cooking and learning about the body. She has completed a marathon and two triathlons and is very goal oriented. She welcomes her clients’ goals and works together with them to achieve those goals through medical nutrition therapy, nutrition education, counseling support and good food ideas.
